The ticket that cashed

We posted it Wednesday as our early pick: one unit, +800 boosted to +1600.

| Leg | What happened | | |---|---|---| | Bucky Irving anytime TD | 2 touchdowns | ✅ | | Bucky Irving 50+ rushing yards | 165 yards | ✅ | | Cade Otton 25+ receiving yards | 25 yards | ✅ | | Bucs +9.5 | Won 24–16 | ✅ |

One unit at +1600 is +16 units. It's on our picks page with every other pick, win or lose.

How it happened

Tampa came in 0–4, starting a backup quarterback, as an 8.5-point underdog. They won by eight.

  • They ran. Tampa rushed for 241 yards against a Dallas run defense that ranked 29th coming in.
  • Bucky Irving had 21 carries for 165 yards, including a 72-yard run, and scored twice: a 5-yard catch and a 1-yard run.
  • Jalon Daniels went 19 of 25 for 189 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.
  • Dallas threw for 316 yards but turned it over three times and ran for 50.

That's the story we bet on: with Baker Mayfield out, Tampa leans on the run against a defense that can't stop it, and stays in the game.

The sweat: one yard

Cade Otton needed 25 receiving yards. He finished with 3 catches for exactly 25. One yard less and the whole ticket is dead, with three of four legs sitting there as winners. That's what a parlay is.

What we said before the game

Before kickoff we wrote that this ticket needed to hit about 6% of the time at +1600, that we had it around 13%, and that it loses about seven times in eight. Last night was the one.

A winning ticket doesn't prove the 13% was right, any more than a losing one would have proved it wrong. It was a good price on a bet that usually loses. It doesn't mean the next one hits.

The ticket that lost

Our second pick on the game was our SGP of the week at +480: one unit.

| Leg | What happened | | |---|---|---| | Cade Otton 25+ receiving yards | 25 yards | ✅ | | Bucky Irving 50+ rushing yards | 165 yards | ✅ | | CeeDee Lamb 70+ receiving yards | 9 yards, left injured | ❌ |

CeeDee Lamb left the game with a quadriceps injury after 2 catches for 9 yards. The pick lost, −1 unit, and it's on the record as a loss.

The record

  • Thursday night: +16 and −1, so +15 units.
  • Season: +17.03 units on Boom Board Picks.
  • Still to play: 15 Boom Teasers on Sunday, one unit each.

Every pick locks at kickoff and stays up. The players and lines for the rest of Week 5 are on the games page, and the rest of the week's leans are in the Week 5 Game Plan.

Every Boom Board Pick is posted before kickoff and stays up, win or lose. Tail any of them straight into your own free bet tracker.
