▸How teasers work · and why most of them lose
A teaser is a parlay where every leg's spread moves in your favor, here by 6 points. You pay for those points with a lower payout: a 2-team, 6-point teaser usually pays −110 to −130, where a regular 2-team parlay pays about +264.
Most teasers lose money. Six points are usually worth less than what you give up: spreads teased 6 have won 68.6% of the time since 2006, and a leg needs 72.4% at −110, 73.9% at −120, 75.2% at −130.
The exceptions cross 3 and 7, the two most common NFL margins: an underdog of +1.5 to +2.5 teased to +7.5 or +8.5, or a favorite of −7 teased to −1. This is the Wong teaser, named for Stanford Wong, who laid out the rule in Sharp Sports Betting. Our data adds a few more spreads, and shows how each one does at your price.
Higher-scoring games (totals over 49) finish inside the teased range less often, so each leg uses the record from games like its own. Pushes are set aside. Small samples are marked: weigh them less.
